How to Create Copies of Microsoft Flows

Ronelle Raath, 14 October 2019

In this blog, we’ll cover some ways to copy Microsoft Flows. The methods we’ll cover are using the Save As button, the Send a copy (Preview) button and the Export button.

Save As Button:

The Save As button works as you would expect. You click the button, input the new Flow name and click Save. This creates a duplicate in the same environment as the current Flow.

As the description states, the Flow is created but it is Inactive.

Export and import:

This method provides two options. You can export as a Package (.zip) or as a Logic Apps Template (.json). The method I will cover is the Package option.

When selected, you first need to add a name of the exported file, add the environment it is being exported from and then add a description. You then have the option of setting a few of the export options. They will mainly be around how the Flow will be created and the connections the Flow needs. By default, these can be set when imported.

Once the file has been uploaded correctly you will see duplicate packages from the export section. The difference here is you need to complete the steps shown earlier.

Once the connections have been set and the Flow has been configured to “create new” or “update existing” you will be greeted with a success message.

Send a copy:

Send a copy allows you to send the Flow you created to someone else within your organisation, so they are able to create their own instance of your Flow and work on it too.

Once it has been sent you should be able to view it under the Flows Shared with me area. This allows you to create a duplicate of the sent Flow.
