Metro Themed Reporting in Dynamics CRM 2011

Paul Nieuwelaar, 06 August 2012

Recently I created a report in Dynamics CRM 2011 to show the number of phone calls made by each Sales Person for a given day. This includes a breakdown of each Status; for example the total calls that were Successful, Unavailable, or No Answer, as well as the overall total for the day.

Ideally this was to be 1 person to 1 page, so it could be printed and given to each sales person to see their totals for the day… I thought this is a great chance to try out some metro styles in CRM!

This is just an example of one of the pages in the report; however a page is generated for each sales team member that makes at least one call on the selected day. As you can see, each ‘Status’ consumes 1 metro tile on the page. At the top we have the total count of all activities for this User (groups by Owner), then below that it drills down into each status, each using a filtered table where statuscode = xxx.

Because the ‘Metro’ look is just tables and background colours when it comes to reports, the file size is kept nice and small, as there are no embedded images.

Note: The font style ‘Segeo UI’ does not appear to render when viewing the report from CRM (looks fine when exported however). Instead you can use ‘Calibri’.

If you’re thinking of creating some Metro reports of your own, I’ve added the colours I used below (in a metro style!):
