Sales Process in Dynamics CRM 2011: Opportunities

In my previous blog post I have described how you can convert a lead to an opportunity in Dynamics CRM 2011. In this blog I will discuss how can we create opportunities in Dynamics CRM 2011 and how can we add products to an opportunity.

An opportunity is considered as prospective sale to an account or contact. We create opportunity when we make a potential sale to an existing customer. An opportunity gets created as a part of the conversion process from the lead and we can also create a new opportunity by navigating to Sales > Click on Opportunities and Click on New. Enter all the required fields such as Topic, Potential customer, Currency etc.

To add products to an Opportunity:

Open an opportunity and enter all the details such as Topic, Potential Customer, Price List and Click on Save. Please note you must select a price list before attempting to add a product to an opportunity.

Click in the product section and it will change the ribbon menu. Click on Add new opportunity product.

You can add an existing product or write-in a new product. Enter all the required fields such as Price per Unit and Quantity. Click on Save & Close.

You will notice the product has been added to the Opportunity Form as Line items.

Click on Recalculate Opportunity in ribbon menu and you will notice the Estimated Revenue has now been updated with the product price. You can connect Quote, Orders and Invoices to an opportunity.

You can close an opportunity as either Won or Lost. To close an opportunity Click on Close as Won or Close as Lost in the ribbon menu.

A Close Opportunity window will open and you can provide the required details about why this opportunity is being closed.

Once the opportunity is closed you cannot associate Quotes, Order and Invoices to it however you can Reopen an opportunity. To reopen an opportunity Click on Reopen Opportunity button in the ribbon menu.
