Create a Phone Activity Icon on Task Bar by using Dynamics CRM 2011

As a part of your job responsibilities, you might be responsible of answering phone call for your organization on behalf of your colleagues. By using Dynamics CRM 2011 you can make this process very simple and you can easily create phone activities.

First of all you need to open an activity in Dynamics CRM 2011 Online as you normally do:

Navigate to ‘Workplace’ > Click on ‘Activities’ > Click on ‘Phone Call’.

The below window will open and you will notice system has already populated data in some fields for you such as: Sender, Outgoing, Day, Date and Time etc. You can change the data in these fields as per your requirements.

To create a shortcut, copy the URL of this phone activity and open a fresh web browser and paste the copied link. Hover your mouse cursor on Microsoft Dynamics CRM icon which is in front of the URL and drag it to the taskbar to pin this link.

Now whenever you receive a phone call and you want to record it as a phone activity in Dynamics CRM 2011, you can simply click on this phone activity icon and it will open a new phone activity page and you can record the details. This in turn saves a lot of time and effort as we can avoid the multiple clicks required in creation of phone activity by simply pinning the phone activity icon in our taskbar.

You can do the same thing with Leads, Contact, and Accounts etc. If you pin accounts, leads, contacts etc. to your task bar, you will notice that all of them has the same icon. But no need to worry about this as you can customize your task bar icons as per your preference and it will assist you in distinguishing between the similar icons with different attributes.
