As I am training in the area of web development, web design is a part of the development side that I will need to master. I started an E-learning web design and graphics course which goes through the concepts for designing and building web sites. The course helps you understand what makes a good website and strategies to make your website the best it can be. The course also includes tips on the use of HTML and graphics for formatting and layout.
Whether your website is for promoting or selling your product/s, advertising your company in general, or a website for blogging your thoughts, the main idea for having a website is to generate traffic.
So you’ll need to understand the best ways to get more people to your website, understand what people want to and expect to see. Your website needs to be clear and easy for people to follow, ease of usability will define whether a customer buys your product online, explores what your company does or subscribes to your blog, etc.
Graphics are a huge part of having a website; you will find that people are more likely to remember your website for its visuals, so having a good original company logo is a good idea.
If your website is going to have a lot of graphics you will need to make sure that the graphics file sizes are as small as possible, taking into consideration the different internet connections.
The course also shows how to create fonts with HTML and graphics. It explains different layouts for your page including how and where to use tools like lines, buttons, bullets, and tables that will best suit your website.
The last portion of the course focuses on the back end part of designing a good website like how to use frames, animated GIFs, Dynamic HTML, JavaScript, QuickTime, Flash, and Shockwave in a website.
The course will give you the ability to make your website stand out from other websites and ensure that you are making your website as versatile and easy to use as possible.
