Dynamics CRM 2011 user license costs for non profit

A little while back I ran an overview of the Microsoft licensing structure for organisations by size and industry. Since then I’ve been in a few more situations where clients had no idea about CRM User Client Access Licenses (User CALS) – more specifically what they are, how much they cost, and what deployment environment they apply to.

User CAL defined: A User CAL is purchased to allow one user to connect to the server software to access your Dynamics CRM. Any user can connect, but only one user may use a given CAL at any given time. Any number of CALs can be purchased to allow any number of users to simultaneously connect to the server.

Regardless of whether you purchase Dynamics CRM in its basic form or with high-level customisations, you will need to purchase User CALS for each individual person that needs access and editing rights. The CALS are charged on per user per month basis and the rates and hosting options available are as follows:

On premises Deployment

Standard business rate: $68

Non-profit rate through TechSoup: $15.50

Cloud Deployment

Standard business rate (OneNet NZ hosted): $68

Standard business rate (MS Singapore hosted): $68

Non-profit rate through MS (Singapore hosted): $15.50

(Note: All prices are ex GST and indicative only)

The bottom line is that licensing costs and potential hosting limitations should be a key consideration before you decide on the type of deployment right for you.
