In this blog I will provide abbreviated/ annotated instructions, from the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics Installation Guide, for installing the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics.

These instructions are focused on integrating two Microsoft Dynamics CRM online organisations. For full information it is important that you read the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics Installation Guide dated January 2013 or later.

The installation of the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics CRM will:

• Create a new SQL Server database called MSDI (Microsoft Dynamics Integration). The MSDI database stores all configured integrations and their status and also acts as a security boundary between the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics CRM service and the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics client.

The following are abbreviated system requirements:

• Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2, 2003 R2 SP2, or 2008 R2 SP2. For demonstration purposes, I am using Windows 7 Professional.

• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0.

• A valid connection to a computer with Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2008 R2, or 2012 installed. For demonstration purposes I am using a locally installed instance of SQL Server 2012 Express Edition.

• A valid subscription to Microsoft Dynamics CRM online. For demonstration purposes I am using two Microsoft Dynamics CRM online organisations.

Note: If you are using Microsoft Dynamics CRM online, or if the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server has Update Rollup 12 or later installed, use Connector for Microsoft Dynamics version 2.1.29.1 or later.

• Windows Identity Foundation installed on the computer that runs Connector for Microsoft Dynamics

• At least two different Windows Live IDs and passwords. Refer to CRM Integration Account and CRM Deployment Administrator Account below.

The following are abbreviated user account requirements:

• Installation Account: This Windows account is used to install the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. This account must.

• Be at least a domain user and a member of the Local Administrators group on the server where Connector for Microsoft Dynamics is to be installed.

• At a minimum, be assigned the dbcreater and securityadmin server roles on the SQL server, where the MSDI database is to be stored.

• Service Account: This Windows account is used to run the integration and must be created before installation. During the installation the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics:

• Assigns the service account to the Connector for Microsoft Dynamics service.

• Assigns the service account to the public SQL server role.

• Creates a SQL server logon for the account if a logon does not exist.

• Assigns the service account to the db_datareader and db_datawriter database roles on the MSDI database.

• CRM Integration Accounts: These Microsoft Dynamics CRM accounts are used by the source and destination adapters provided by the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Instance Adapter for integrating the source and destination Microsoft Dynamics CRM organisations.

• In the source Microsoft Dynamics CRM organisation, this user should be assigned Security Roles that provide access levels and read privileges for the entities that will be integrated.

• In the destination Microsoft Dynamics CRM organisation, this user should be assigned Security Roles that provide the relevant read, create, update, assign, append and append to access levels and privileges for the entities that will be integrated.

• These user accounts should not be assigned the System Administrator Security Role.

• You may also want to assign the Act on Behalf of Another User and Override Created on or Created By for Records during Data Import privileges to the destination Microsoft Dynamics CRM organisation Integration Account user.
