How to check what version of CRM you’re using

Paul Nieuwelaar, 21 April 2010

Ever wondered what version of CRM you were using? Or what Rollup your CRM is currently on? If for any reason you need to update your current version of CRM to the latest rollup, but you don’t know what rollup you’re currently on, instead of downloading and installing every rollup from 1 to 10, just to make sure you didn’t miss any important updates, you can save yourself a lot of time by just checking what version of CRM you’re on, and what the latest rollup that has been installed is. Then you only need to download and install the rollups necessary.

There are actually a few simple ways to check what version of CRM you’re on, and what the latest rollup is. If you have CRM for Office Outlook installed, you can do one of the following to check what version of CRM you are using:

  • In Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, click the ‘CRM’ icon on the CRM toolbar.

  • In Microsoft Office Outlook 2010, click the ‘CRM’ icon under the ‘Add-Ins’ tab.

The numbers in the brackets that comes after the CRM version is the build number; this tells you what rollup your CRM is currently on. Underneath the CRM build number will be the CRM for Office Outlook build number; this will tell you what rollup your CRM for Office Outlook is currently on. Match the build numbers from your CRM and CRM for Office Outlook with the build numbers listed in the table below to give you your current rollup for CRM 4.0, and CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook.

This image shows that the current version of CRM is 4.0, and the current rollup on CRM 4.0 and CRM 4.0 for Microsoft Office Outlook is rollup 9.

If your version of CRM is not currently at rollup 7 or above, it is strongly recommended that you upgrade to at least rollup 7, as rollup 7 contains changes to the outlook client functionality and synchronization, and support for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2.

CRM rollups are released roughly every 8 weeks, so you should check for new rollups regularly to make sure your version of CRM is up to date.
